A Vandalia woman who injured her infant son was sentenced Thursday to 27 years in prison.

25-year-old Aubree Hammer was charged in March of 2016 with throwing the child to the floor, causing brain damage. The boy was 3-1/2 months old at the time.

Vandalia police began investigating the incident the previous month. Because of the seriousness of the injuries, Vandalia police activated the Child Death Investigation Task Force.

At one point in the case, Hammer was examined as to her fitness, but was judged fit to stand trial.

Once out of prison, Hammer will serve three years mandatory supervised release. She will be given credit for more than two years served while awaiting disposition of her case.
