Effingham Public Library will join libraries nationwide during National Library Week in celebrating the many ways libraries lead their communities through the services, programs, and expertise they offer.

National Library Week runs April 8 through April 14 and the library will not only be offering programs and events, but also fun library-themed downloads and staff features on its website and social media!

Monday, April 9 kicks off with a library-inspired Adult Make-and-Take craft in the Bauer Computer Lab from 10 to 11:30 a.m. No registration required. Meanwhile, on Facebook and Instagram, learn about everything that happens before a book makes it onto the shelves in the library.

Tuesday, April 10 is a patron Customer Appreciation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Fearday Café area.  In the evening there will be two “Escape the Library” break out room events for young people. The break out for ages 8 to 12 will begin at 4 p.m. and ages 13 to 18 at 6 p.m.  Numbers are limited and registration is required.

Wednesday, April 11 is National Bookmobile Day and details about how the Library’s new Book Bike will travel around Effingham will be released.  Interested in how books are mended at the library? “How Do We Fix Our Books?” will begin at 2 p.m. Registration is required.

An online “I Love My Library” Contest will run from April 8 to April 14. Write a haiku about why you love the Effingham Library and share it on the Library’s Facebook page using the hashtag #eplhaiku! A haiku is a short poem with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line, and 5 syllables in the third line. The poem does not have to rhyme. Prize will be awarded to the poem with the most likes.

If you have any questions regarding the programs, the library can be contacted at 217-342-2464 x1, email, info@effinghamlibrary.org, or go online at www.effinghamlibrary.org.

The theme for 2018 National Library Week is "Libraries Lead."
