Dieterich village officials decided several years ago that they could develop their community through making more residential properties available.

That led to development of North Pointe Estates on the north side of the village. Now, work is beginning on Hartke Subdivision on the southwest side of the village.

The Dieterich Village Board awarded a bid this week to Effingham Asphalt for just over $807,000 to construct streets, sanitary sewer and water mains in the new subdivision. 38 lots are to be included in the subdivision and Dieterich Village Clerk Brittny Gipson said seven of the lots are already spoken for before ground is even broken on the project.

The Board awarded a separate bid to Effingham Asphalt for $185,000 for asphalt work on three streets in North Pointe Estates.

Board members also reviewed a draft agreement with E-J Water Cooperative regarding sharing the village water tower. The village already gets its treated water from E-J. The project would improve E-J's water pressure and would also help with the village's water equipment.
