The Effingham County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a man in Effingham County Monday afternoon, but no foul play is suspected.

A press release indicates that 48-year-old David M. Alexander of Pana collapsed at the residence of an acquaintance in a rural area north of Effingham late in the afternoon.  Alexander was taken to the St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital emergency room by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation did not disclose a cause of death.  An autopsy was conducted today and preliminary findings indicate Alexander died due to natural causes.  A final determination is pending the results of toxicology tests.
