Drug charges face a Salem resident after an incident in Altamont.

Altamont police stopped to check on a disabled vehicle with its hood up on a local parking lot just before midnight Monday night. A conversation with 29-year-old Jessie Irwin of Salem led to information that Irwin had hypodermic needles and a pipe on her person in her clothing.

When taken to Effingham County Jail, Irwin was found to also possess a bottle that contained crystal meth. Police also learned that Irwin had outstanding warrants from Marion County and from Franklin County alleging failure to appear in court on counts of possession of controlled substance.

Irwin was in custody at last report.
