North Clay Schools Back in Session Friday

North Clay schools in Louisville will be back in session Friday after being closed Thursday in the aftermath of a threat Wednesday afternoon that was investigated by school and law enforcement authorities.

The following is a statement released Thursday afternoon by North Clay Superintendent Monty Aldrich as to how things will proceed from this point:

"Law enforcement has worked with North Clay and all suspects identified in yesterday’s incident are in custody. North Clay will resume with school tomorrow, and we are going to implement some additional measures as a precaution. This will include student drop off and pick up. Students should be dropped off at the entrances of each building instead of being walked to classrooms. Only students, staff, and authorized visitors will be allowed in the hallways throughout the school day. This is not due to a continued threat, but as an extra precaution to tighten security. In addition, law enforcement will be around the buildings periodically as a routine so understand that you may see squad cars here.

Numerous people have sent concerns, comments, and encouragement for our schools and it is appreciated. It is not a quick process to sort through all information, video surveillance, and allegations with something like this. We want to make sure all bases are covered and that all involved are protected by law. Therefore, many of your calls, texts, emails, etc. have not been answered. Many comments that were passed to us related to receiving a vague message without detailed information. First, we did not know all of the facts, and if we did, by law we cannot share those due to confidentiality. There’s a great deal of things that take place during this type of investigation and we want to get it right. That takes time and patience. We all have our own children here as well and share your same concerns.

We are going to post procedures for each building as well as for after-school activities such as practices, events, and access to the buildings. This will be posted on our website at northclayschools.com, and will be posted on the North Clay Facebook Page. Again, North Clay will resume with school tomorrow, Friday, as normal.
