A social media threat that actually involved a school district in Ohio caused some concern in Effingham this morning, but authorities say there is no need for alarm.

This morning, administrators at Effingham High School were made aware of a social media post indicating a possible threat. Immediately, the District took proactive measures and communicated with School Resource Officers and Effingham City Police.

Local police investigated the post and confirmed the threat was found NOT to be related to the Effingham area or the state of Illinois. All students and staff members are safe.

Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan said information indicates a school district in Ohio as being the object of the possible threat. That is the extent of what is known at this time.

Doan said, "The safety of students and staff is our number one goal at Unit #40. We wish to thank the students who brought this information forward, as well as the local police department and School Resource Officers for their efforts. We thank all entities for working together for the safety of our children."
