The Effingham Noon Rotary Club got to hear about high school basketball at their meeting February 21.

Not about this season, though, but about the coming season. That's when the Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic will go to a three-day, 16-team tournament.

Many of the favorites from the first five years of the tournament will be returning, but there is also excitement about teams that will be new to the tournament, including the St. Anthony Bulldogs, who are coming home after spending the last several seasons in the Vandalia Holiday Tournament. Pleasant Plains, coached by Teutopolis graduate Kyle Weber, will also be joining the field and it appears Lawrenceville will also be a part of the tournament. Feelers are still out to the final couple of teams.

Effingham Unit 40 Activity Director David Woltman and Teutopolis Athletic Director Mike Wilson served as guest speakers for the program. Volunteers from the Teutopolis Booster Club and the Effingham Sportsbackers assist with the tournament planning and execution, and corporate sponsors underwrite many of the costs not covered by gate receipts.

Greg Sapp served as Rotary weekly program chairman.
