Early voting for the March primary begins Thursday in Illinois, including Effingham County.

County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel is suggesting that those voting Democratic might want to wait until a court decision in a statewide race is decided.

Scott Drury is a candidate for the Democrat nomination for Attorney General. The Court has ruled Drury off the ballot, but he has appealed that ruling. There is a stay on the decision at this point, so he is currently on the ballot. If Drury loses his appeal, his name will be removed from the ballot. If he wins his appeal, Drury's name will appear on the ballot.

Hirtzel is suggesting you wait to vote until the issue is resolved.

In the meantime, early voting can be done in-person at the County Clerk's office at 101 North 4th Street on the second floor. Voting may take place any weekday between 8am and 4pm, as well as on Saturday morning, March 17, from 8am to noon. All precincts within Effingham County will be served at the County Clerk's office.
