The filing period for the 2013 Consolidated Election begins Monday at 8am.  The election, set for April 9, will decide the winners in school board, community college board and park board races across Illinois.

Some were concerned, though, that the filing period was originally to end at 5pm on December 24, Christmas Eve.  Many offices, including governmental offices, close early or are closed all day on Christmas Eve, so the legislation has been amended to let the filing period conclude at 5pm on Wednesday, December 26 instead.  The change will allow government offices to close early or be closed all day on Christmas Day if they wish without breaking election law.
