The human remains found last month on a farm near Boyleston in Wayne County have been identified as those of a woman missing from Fairfield.

FBI officials say Megan Nichols has been missing since July 3, 2014. It's still uncertain how Nichols' remains ended up at the rural location. There was an active crime scene at the location for several days after the remains were found on December 26.

Earlier this month, the FBI sent the remains off to a lab in Quantico, Virginia to undergo forensic examination.

The FBI and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department still consider the matter an ongoing investigation, and ask anyone with information about Nichols' disappearance to submit their tips.
