Attorney Dennis Atteberry has withdrawn as a candidate for Resident Circuit Judge in Shelby County.

Atteberry had been one of two Republicans who had filed for the party's nomination following the death of Judge Allen Bennett of Windsor at the end of November. His candidacy was challenged, though, by Shelbyville resident Kaylin Tucker of Shelbyville, who contended Atteberry was not a registered voter in Shelby County in time to run for office.

Tucker's objection is yet to be decided by the Illinois State Board of Elections, but Atteberry's withdrawal seems to make their ruling a moot point.

Atteberry's withdrawl leaves Associate Judge Amanda Ade-Harlow of Moweaqua as the only Republican candidate on the ballot. Shelby County State's Attorney Gina Vonderheide of Shumway is the only Democrat seeking the office.
