The state has hired an engineering firm to repair a main barn across from the Coliseum on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Springfield.

Rebecca Clark, spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA), said structural repairs are needed on the northwest corner of Barn 13, which has been evaluated by an engineering firm.

Aware of the situation, IDOA cordoned off that corner of the building, which includes a large show ring, Clark added. The building has not been condemned and remains usable, although no events currently are scheduled in the unheated building, she said.

Water leaks damaged the barn’s roof joists and decking, according to the State Journal-Register.

Nearly a dozen buildings, including the shuttered Coliseum and the Junior Home Economics Building, on the Illinois State Fairgrounds need repairs and are on IDOA’s priority list.
