Icy Road Conditions Led to Injury Crashes Throughout the Area Early Saturday Morning

A was truck traveling eastbound in the right lane on Interstate 70 just west of milepost 121 near Greenup at 1:31am.  As freezing mist was falling causing ice on the roadway Joann Keisey, 26 of Nixa Missouri, began to change lanes into the left lane to pass another vehicle moving slowly in traffic when it spun out of control.  The vehicle ran off of the roadway to the right, struck the ditch, and overturned.  The truck came to final rest in the south ditch facing westbound on its driver's side.  

Keisey, and four passengers all from Nixa, were transported to Regional Hospital inTerre Haute, IN for minor injuries.  No charges were filed.

An SUV driven by 38-year-old Thang Saw of Aurora, Colorado lost control due to icy road conditions on eastbound I-70 near milepost 85 between Altamont and Effingham. Saw went into a skid, struck the embankment on the north side of the roadway, and then rolled over before the vehicle caught fire. All five of the occupants were able to get out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.

Saw and the four passengers, all from Denver and Aurora, Colorado, were all transported via ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Saw was ticketed for Driving Too Fast for Conditions and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash which occurred at 3:38 Saturday morning.

At 3:55am in Fayette County, State Police say two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 51 just south of Ramsey. 

The State Police investigation shows that a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Eric Gibbs of Olney lost control due to icy road conditions and slid over to the oncoming lane of traffic. The passenger side of Gibbs vehicle then hit the passenger side of a northbound car in front of him driven by 56-year-old Monica Harris-Williams of Madison. After impact, the Gibbs car left the roadway and struck a telephone pole on the edge of a cornfield.

Both Gibbs and a passenger in his car, 22-year-old Samantha Gibbs of Ramsey, were taken by ambulance to the Fayette County Hospital for treatment.

Gibbs was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
