A 22-year-old Port St. Lucie, Florida woman was fatally injured early Saturday morning when standing on I-57 northbound just south of Mt. Vernon. State Police say Amanda Beem had been involved in an earlier property damage accident.

State Police say preliminary investigation indicates Beem was struck by a semi driven by 71-year-old Robert Miller of Effingham. One of the passengers, a juvenile from Port St. Lucie, Florida, received major injuries and was transported by ambulance to a regional hospital. Two other Port St. Lucie, Florida residents standing with the disabled SUV were not hurt.

No tickets were issued.

The crash occurred at mile post 90.5 at 4:16 Saturday morning.

The accident resulted in northbound I-57 traffic being diverted at Illinois Route 154 for about five and a half hours for crash investigation and scene cleanup.
