Fayette County State's Attorney Josh Morrison Tuesday requested a DNA sample be tested in the murder case of Alexander Beccue of St. Peter.

The 24-year-old Beccue is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the August shooting death of Joshua Smith of Ramsey. Beccue also faces counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Morrison sought permission from Judge Donald Sheafor to conduct the DNA test, advising that the test will consume all of the DNA sample. Defense attorney Ed Deters did not object to the test, but did ask for specific parameters to be followed when testing the sample.

Judge Sheafor said he would agree to the test, but asked for a written order to be prepared for him to sign officially authorizing the test. It's expected it will take until after the holidays for the order to be prepared.

The next pre-trial in the case was scheduled for the afternoon of February 27.
