An Effingham woman has been given prison time for drugs.

27-year-old Heidi Hood pleaded guilty Tuesday to a count of possession of methamphetamine and received a two-year prison term. Hood was arrested in July.

Hood was slated to be in court for a  pre-trial hearing, but was ready to enter a guilty plea. She could have been sentenced to up to four years had the case gone to trial. Also as part of the negotiated plea, two other drug cases facing Hood were dismissed.

Hood will begin serving her sentence on January 2.
