80,021 Deer Taken During Shotgun Season

80,021 deer were taken during the Illinois shotgun deer hunting season.

The total exceeds the 2016 total of 79,559.

28,656 were taken during the second portion of the season, after 51,365 during the first segment.

There were 872 deer harvested this year in Effingham County, up from 807 in 2016, 580 in the first portion, 292 during the second segment.

Area counties and their totals:

--Clay--1,112, up from 1,091 in 2016

--Cumberland--775, up from 708

--Fayette--1,544, up from 1,501

--Jasper--984, up from 973

--Shelby--1,069, down from 1,087 in 2016

A reminder that this weekend is Muzzleloader-Only Season. The other seasons: 

--The Late Winter Antlerless-Only Season and CWD Deer Seasons will be December 28-31 and January 12-14

--Archery Deer Season continues through January 14
