Double Fatality Crash on I-57

Preliminary investigative details indicate at 10:28pm Saturday night a car driven by Shriley M. Klitzing, 83 of Brownstown, was driving the wrong direction on Interstate 57 at mile post 159. Klitzing was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic, when she crashed into a semi driven by Richard P. Messerve, 68 of Mayer, Arizona.  

The car was thrown around the tractor trailer, damaging the front end and driver’s side of the car.  The semi overturned into the guardrail due to the crash.  

Both drivers required extrication. Messerve was pronounced deceased on scene and Klitzing was flown to Carle where she was pronounced deceased due to injuries.
