Sheriff's Deputies Handle Two Injury Crashes Tuesday Morning

Effingham County sheriff's deputies handled two crashes Tuesday morning, both involving injuries.

One call came at 1:59am to 7432 North 1775th Road in Bishop Township. Deputies report a car driven by 16-year-old Lauren Gephart of Dieterich was southbound when Gephart lost control of the vehicle. The car ran off the roadway and struck a culvert, then overturned before coming to rest.

Gephart was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Gephart was cited for improper lane usage.

The other crash occurred at 5:46am on Illinois Route 33 at the junction with Illinois Route 32 northwest of Effingham.

Deputies report a SUV driven by 24-year-old Blayne Davis of Stewardson was southbound on Route 32, while a SUV driven by 77-year-old Clyde Shamhart of Beecher City was westbound on Route 33 and the units collided in the intersection.

Both drivers were injured and were taken to St. Anthony's.

Davis was cited for disobeying a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
