Things are back to normal at Effingham High School after an evacuation at mid-morning Friday due to smoke in the building.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said an examination of the building determined the source of the smoke was a motor on an air circulation unit above the ceiling in the B wing hallway at EHS. The area was ventilated to remove any smoke and haze.

Initially, all students and staff members were evacuated due to the smoke, but were later allowed to move back inside into the large gym at EHS. Meanwhile, fire crews, police and Unit 40 personnel combed the building to determine the source of the smoke. Holomy said the rooftop units were ruled out as a source, and thermal imaging cameras did not reveal any heat sources that could uncover a fire. No fire was ever a part of the incident.

No one was injured in the incident.
