Members of the History Club and the history teachers at Effingham High School joined forces Thursday morning to present their annual salute and thanks to veterans.

Thursday is the final school day before Veterans Day on Saturday.

The event was student-led, and opened with recognition of all of those veterans present. There was also time to recognize students who have enlisted in the military and any student who has a loved one currently serving.

The EHS Band presented a medley of the anthems of the various branches of the Armed Forces.

There was also a lone table set in memory of those who have died in the service of the nation or those who are unaccounted for, and the various elements on display were explained.

The bulk of the program was music-driven, featuring songs related to various wars throughout the nation's history, and the origin of the songs. That included the playing of "Yankee Doodle", the singing of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and videos of "Over There", "In the Mood", "Ballad of the Green Berets", and "Arlington".

The event concluded with a reception for the veterans in the school library.
