North Clay Board Fills Vacancy

North Clay school board members Wednesday filled a vacancy on the Board.

The Board selected Debra Wilbanks to fill the vacancy created by a recent resignation when the former member moved out of the district. 

Three other candidates...Ryan Ballard, Ashley Harrison and Jason Jones...were also on hand and spoke to the Board. 

The vote to selected Wilbanks from 4-2 with members Anthony Dawkins and Barry Adair voting No. Wilbanks was then sworn into office and was seated for the balance of the meeting.

The Board heard from Travis Arnold regarding co-oping with the Flora School District in football. Members discussed the possible interest and directed administrators to set up a potential meeting with Flora's administrators.

Board members approved 7-0 to allow Brent Bailey and Rotary Interact to use school facilities for a military-type training course among other events in the Spring of 2018, and also discussed an incident that occurred at an away athletic contest. The spectator allegedly involved was not present at Wednesday's meeting, but was invited to comment. No motion was made for any action.

The Board also:

--approved concrete repair work in conjunction with an ongoing project on campus

--hired Cathy Hall as a cook

--scheduled another strategic planning meeting for 5:30pm on Wednesday, November 8

--discussed Facebook posts by people involved with and/or linked to the school district and how to address inappropriate comments made toward staff and students

--briefly discussed career and technical education

--heard that $1,000 was raised for the battle against breast cancer at the Pink Night volleyball game with Clay City

--learned that approximately 25 North Clay students participated in Manufacturing Day involving visits to Effingham and Teutopolis companies
