Lake Land College trustees this week approved an updated version of the college's Facilites Master Plan, which includes an expansion of the Kluthe Center in Effingham.

The expansion will occur when funds are available. Asked by Trustee Ann Deters of Effingham whether the Kluthe expansion would involve a building addition or a separate structure, Lake Land President Josh Bullock said the design will depend on the architect's recommendation. Bullock said he would prefer a detached, adjacent building.

The Effingham Regional Career Academy is to be housed in the expanded facility. Academy classes that got underway this school year are being housed at existing school buildings.

The Master Plan also reflects campus improvements, such as the Vo-Tech Building renovation, that have occurred since the last update in 2008.

Also this week, Lake Land trustees certified the September 13-14 Student Government Association election results. Among those elected to the Student Senate were Christian Dolan of Herrick, Grace Zeller of Effingham, and Jodie Harris of Windsor.

The Board also named the Northwest Building Room 114 as the Heartland Dental-Dental Hygiene Lab, and the park area on the campus main grounds as Dr. William L. and Margaret Podesta Park, in memory of two of the early heroes of the college's development.

Also approved: increasing the current Perkins grant program specialist position from part time to a full-time, grant-funded post; and creating a Director of Foundation Operations position to support fundraising efforts for Lake Land. The non-profit Lake Land College Foundation will provide 100% of the funding for the new position.
