The Effingham City Plan Commission Tuesday recommended City Council approval of a rezoning of two lots owned by St. John's Lutheran Church.

The properties are located at 110 and 112 South Oak Street. The chairman of the St. John's congregation, Rick Keller, said the lots were purchased a couple of years ago from the Samuel family. Keller said the congregation is looking at placing a pavilion on the property and a play area. He said the area would work well for younger members of the church congregation or for events such as a church picnic. The area could also be utilized by Eagle's Nest Pre-School, which operates in the church building.

The plan is to rezone the property from general commercial to single-family dwelling district. There were no objections voiced to the plans.

The Commission also voted to recommend Council approval of a preliminary and final plat of the second addition to Cross Pointe Subdivision. The plan is to subdivide a 10.58 acre tract, creating a separate 4.01 acre tract at the northeast corner of Outer Belt West and Avenue of Mid-America, west of Firefly Grill.

Commission members also discussed changing the name of DJMDT Subdivision to Golden Fields Subdivision and the same change for the planned residence district in the subdivision. No objections were voiced to the proposed change.
