Word floating around the city of Chicago is that when Illinois lawmakers return to Springfield later this month for the veto session, the General Assembly is likely to consider approving $100 million in capital funds for the Obama Presidential Library.

Some sources say the proposal may take money earmarked for IDOT construction projects to help build the library.

In the meantime, State Representative David Reis (R-Ste. Marie) has filed a House resolution against providing the funds. HR627 “States the belief that the State of Illinois cannot afford to spend $100 million from taxpayer funds on a Barack Obama Presidential Library and Museum. It shows support for the efforts by many to locate a presidential library and museum to the State of Illinois without the use of taxpayer funding.”
