Strasburg Mayor Ron Thomas and the Village of Strasburg Board of Trustees have announced the 2017 Volunteer of the Year recipients Jim Weiss and Justin Krile. The award was presented at the Annual Lions Club Community Wiener Roast.

Jim Weiss was nominated for his work with the Strasburg Lions Club, mostly the Leo Club – in which these young adults serve their community and learn lifelong habits of giving back their community. Now in its third year, the Leo Club has grown from 15 to over 40 high school members. Weiss is also involved with the Stewardson-Strasburg Education Foundation helping to raise approximately $20,000 to help the Stewardson-Strasburg school system.

Justin Krile was nominated for his involvement in endless activities in the Strasburg community. He is currently the president of the Strasburg Community Action Network or SCAN. He is involved in some way or another with the Santa Brigade Breakfast and Market, promoting the community through social media and other marketing efforts, a member of the long-term park planning and Hog Roast committee, represents Strasburg in the Shelby County Partners group and volunteers on the Mapping Refresher Steering Committee to lead and further develop what the Strasburg community has to offer now and in the future.

Any individual, group, business, or organization whose volunteer activities directly benefit the Village of Strasburg and/or its residents are eligible to be nominated for the Volunteer of the Year award. Nominees must demonstrate exceptional commitment to volunteerism by helping with a special project or ongoing activities; demonstrate exemplary leadership, creativity, cooperation, and hard work in their service to others; and serve as role models by inspiring others to serve.

Past recipients include Larry Giertz, Gary Kull, Linda Oakley, Patsy Lenz, Karen Kull, Lisa Shelton, Chris Daniels, Jane Giertz, Charlie Culver, Jodie Quast, and Brittany Kaufman.
