Police Gaining Ground on Auto Theft Incidents in Area

Police from multiple jurisdictions are working toward solving a series of vehicle thefts that occurred in this region over the weekend.

Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said two vehicles were stolen from Brian Milleville of Effingham at his residence near Bliss Park early Sunday morning. The chief said those vehicles have been recovered.

Those were the only vehicles taken in Effingham.

Shelby County and Macon County sheriff's departments and Mattoon City Police are working with Effingham police on the case. Shelby County Sheriff Don Koonce told WAND-TV in Decatur that seven vehicles were stolen across four different counties beginning Saturday night. Two cars were reported stolen in Shelby County. Deputies in Shelby County recovered a car someone stole from the Mattoon area.

Three stolen vehicles were found in Decatur.

Chief Fuesting said there are suspects being sought. He said the suspects are not from this area.
