An Effingham County jury has found Glenn Ramey of Olney fit to stand trial on counts of first degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault.

The jury returned its verdict at 1:40pm Thursday, after getting the case two hours earlier.

The jury was selected on Monday and heard testimony until summations today.

The 54-year-old Ramey is charged in the death of an eight-year-old Olney girl last Thanksgiving Eve. Ramey was examined by psychologist Jerry Boyd as to his fitness, but the defense asked for the question of Ramey's fitness to be decided by a jury.

Due to interest in the case in Richland County, the case was relocated to Effingham County.

Now, officials in Richland County will schedule a trial on Ramey's guilt or innocence.
