(EFFINGHAM CITY E-M-A COORDINATOR KIM TEGELER WITH ILLINOIS E-M-A DIRECTOR JAMES JOSEPH)

Effingham City Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Kim Tegeler has been recognized as an Illinois Professional Emergency Manager.

The recognition came Wednesday at the Illinois Emergency Management Training Summit held this week in Springfield. Tegeler was presented with her certificate of accreditation by IEMA Director James Joseph. 29 individuals from across the state were recognized for achieving Accreditation status, which requires recertification every three years.

In her role as EMA Coordinator, part of Tegeler's responsibility is the oversight of the City Emergency Operations Plan, which allows for the City of Effingham to have an Accredited Emergency Management Agency with the State of Illinois.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy attended the ceremony Wednesday where Tegeler received her accreditation. Holomy said of Tegeler, "She is a very driven and dedicated individual and continues to strive in preparing not only City departments, but the general public, for natural and man-made disasters that may occur within our city. The City is very fortunate to have an individual of Kim's caliber in the position of EMA Coordinator ready to serve at a moment's notice."

Tegeler's expertise was on display at the conference, as she was a presenter on Tuesday and spoke of the preparation and execution of the plan for accommodating the 16,000 people on hand for the Luke Bryan concert at Mid America Motorworks last fall. The plan was several months in development including coordination with numerous police, fire and EMS agencies from the region along with hospital medical staff and local media.
