30 months' probation and time in Effingham County Jail was the sentence returned against an Effingham mancharged with manufacture and/or delivery of a controlled substance.

20-year-old William Carter of Charleston was charged in connection with the possible overdose of another individual.

City police received a report May 11 of a possible overdose involving an 18-year-old girl who was being transported to the hospital. Through interviews with the patient and interviews of friends and family members, detectives identified the drug as a prescription narcotic that was obtained illegally, and Carter was arrested.

Carter potentially faces prison time, but pleaded guilty in exchange for the sentences of probation and 24 days in Effingham County Jail. He will also pay a $1,500 fine plus court costs.
