Those who attended the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce's First Friday Luncheon took a field trip Friday.

The meeting was held at the new home of ADM Animal Nutrition in the Effingham Business Park.

ADM acquired the former Southeastern Container building and is retrofitting it for warehousing and production. One advantage is much more space than their former 60,000 square foot facility nearby on Niccum Avenue. The new facility will eventually grow to 300,000 square feet, and the feed mill is expected to greatly enhance production capability.

The Effingham location produces premix that goes into any number of animal feeds.

The most noticeable feature of the project is construction of a processing tower. The mill tower was built in a matter of days using a procedure called slip form construction that was a continuous concrete pour. A bucket elevator is housed within the tower.
