Country singing star Rodney Atkins will be the featured performer tonight at the Effingham County Fair.

Atkins, known for songs including "Watching You", "Cleaning This Gun", "If You're Going Through Hell", and "Take a Back Road", will hit the stage about 8pm. Local songwriter and storyteller Bill Poss will open the evening at 7pm.

Today is the day the ponies run. Thoroughbred and quarter horse racing will begin at noon, the final day for racing action at this year's fair.

As far as judging, the Class B dairy cattle show will begin at 8am, and the Class H llama show will start at 9am. A reminder of 4-H judging results at 8:45am on KJ Country 102.3.

The fair runs through Satuday at Altamont.
