A former area man has been sentenced to two years in prison on a drug charge.

53-year-old Johnny Burgess received the sentence in Effingham County Circuit Court Monday. Burgess now lives in Anderson, Indiana.

Once out of prison, Burgess will serve one year mandatory supervised release. He was fined $500 plus costs, must pay a $500 drug assessment, and must make restitution.

Burgess was arrested in February 2016 on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Burgess also was sentenced Tuesday in Fayette County on a charge of obstruction of justice. He received a one-year prison term on that count in Fayette County.
