A woman was injured at a local distribution facility over the weekend.

Effingham Assistant Fire Chief Matt Kulesza said the woman's foot and ankle were caught between a forklift and a rack in the warehouse at Genco/FedEx on South Banker during the noon hour on Saturday. Kulesza said the woman apparently had stepped off the forklift and the unit then rolled back onto her foot and ankle.

The woman was freed by firefighters and then was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

The company did not release the name of the injured woman. A statement provided by Cassandra Lirio, Manager of Communications for FedEx is as follows: "Safety is a top priority at FedEx, and our primary concern is the wellbeing of our employee involved in this incident. An internal safety investigation is underway to determine how this happened. We are committed to providing a safe work environment for all FedEx Supply Chain teammates."
