Effingham resident Jacob Fairbanks has been sentenced to three years in prison, but boot camp might be an option.

The 26-year-old Fairbanks was sentenced earlier to probation on counts of aggravated battery and domestic battery. One of the offenses involved a victim over 60 years old. The probation was later revoked, leading to the prison term, but Fairbanks sought the state's impact incarceration, or "boot camp" program. Prosecutors were agreeable.

Boot camp allows those convicted to undergo training as well as incarceration. If the program is successfully completed, the prison sentence is vacated.

If Fairbanks has to serve the prison term, he will be placed on four years mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
