(ALL THAT REMAINS OF THE FORMER POLICE STATION FACILITY IS THE CONCRETE FLOOR SLAB)

The demolition of the former city police station was taken care of in just a few days last week. The site has been cleared and work is ready to begin on construction of the new police station facility.

The former station was built as a Kroger food store, but served as the police station for 30 years. The police department is housed at City Hall while the new police station is completed.

All that remains of the former building is a concrete floor slab.

The City of Effingham tweeted Tuesday that the groundbreaking ceremony will take place next Tuesday, July 18, at 11am on the building site. Completion of the new facility is expected late in the summer 2018.
