(EFFINGHAM COUNTY SHERIFF DAVE MAHON AND DIETERICH VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER ERIC ROBARDS)

Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon was on hand Monday night to present a Certificate of Recognition to Dieterich volunteer firefighter Eric Robards. The presentation came at the firehouse during a department meeting.

The sheriff recognized Robards for his lifesaving actions at the Dieterich 4th of July parade. Robards was recognized for assisting Effingham County Sheriff's Deputy Phil Hardiek in saving the life of Normalie Strickland of Effingham when she became unresponsive. When Hardiek asked for assistance, Robards provided CPR that helped resuscitate Strickland.

Sheriff Mahon credits the quick actions of his officer and the willingness of Robards with the success of the assistance. Mahon said he's happy to have a great working relationship with the volunteer firefighters in and around Effingham County. He said, "They do so much for our communities, and we, as citizens, owe them a great deal of gratitude. We at the Sheriff's Office rely on them for assistance at crash scenes and emergencies throughout the county."
