An Effingham man was arrested for possessing a weapon during a domestic dispute.

62-year-old James L. Harper was arrested on a count of unlawful use of a weapon. Effingham Police Chief Jeffrey Fuesting said Harper was standing in the driveway of a home in the 500 block of South Pembroke at 8:25pm Wednesday. Fuesting said Harper was armed with a long rifle. City police identified themselves upon arrival and after several verbal challenges, Harper put down the weapon.

Fuesting said a woman on scene was injured, but refused treatment.

Harper was also arrested on counts of aggravated battery and domestic battery.

During a court appearance Thursday, bond for Harper was set at $10,000. He is due for his first appearance in court with his attorney on June 22.
