Two people with area ties are recovering after being shot during an incident earlier this week in Belleville.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1pm Monday in the Signal Hill neighborhood of Belleville. Those wounded are 57-year-old Marva Petrus and her 27-year-old son, Daniel Petrus. Marva's mother and Daniel's grandmother, Melba Henderson, was a longtime Watson area resident until moving to the Belleville area in recent years.

Marva's sister, Cheryl Sloan, said Marva is out of the hospital, while Daniel is still hospitalized, but they hope he will be released soon.

Belleville police say the shooting started outside Marva Petrus' residence. The suspect, a black male in his 20s, confronted Marva Petrus and followed her into the residence. While inside the residence, Daniel Petrus fought with the suspect and several shots were fired. The suspect suffered head injuries during the struggle and fled the scene in a vehicle.

Police are still seeking the suspect.
