Single Vehicle Incident on Interstate Ends in Altamont

State Police investigative details indicate that at 8:50am Saturday morning a SUV driven by Derek R. Plastow of Owings, MD was traveling west on I-70 at mile post 81 when it left the south side of the roadway entering the median. The SUV then traveled back into the westbound lanes of traffic sliding sideways, rolling over and coming to a stop on its wheels in the westbound exit ramp lane for Altamont. Plastow then drove on the exit ramp to South Main Street in Altamont, traveled north on South Main where he left the east side of the roadway coming to a stop in a private residence's yard a half mile north of I-70.

Plastow was charged with Improper Lane Usage, DUI, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. He was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
