Dieterich village board members this week awarded a bid for sidewalk work in North Pointe Estates and for work on the parking lot at the Liberty Park pavilion.

K&A Lewis Construction of Dieterich was awarded the work for $68,821.54. The work on the park pavilion parking lot will start next week with hopes of having the work done in time for the 4th of July celebration.

Speaking of the celebration, the Board passed resolutions allowing the annual 4th of July parade and the 4th of July celebration. The Board also approved temporary liquor licenses for two fundraisers to cover the costs of the Quasquicentennial celebration in 2018; one, a performance by the Matt Poss Band on August 12 at the park, the other, a "Dine in Dieterich" event on September 29 in the Civic Center.

Village Board members also voted to contribute $5,000 toward planning for the Quasquicentennial.

Since an addition is being built to the maintenance building, it was decided to also replace the windows and doors in the original portion of the building. There was discussion, but no decision, on what to do to improve the intersection of Loda and Maple. Vehicles are trying to avoid a grate there and are driving into adjacent yards.

Also this week, the Dieterich board approved a $100 donation to the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce's "Life and Work in Effingham County" survey. They also approved updated fees and policies regarding rentals of the Civic Center. Renters will have to fill out a form, and all rentals will now be handled through the Village Hall.
