There's been plenty of interest shown in the former city library building on Market Avenue, but no takers.

That has led the Effingham Public Library Board to take bids on the facility.

Library Director Amanda McKay said a bid notice should be posted soon on the facility. McKay said bids will be received until 5pm on June 26. A special meeting of the library board is to be held at 6pm that day to open the bids.

The Board has agreed on a minimum acceptable bid of $375,000. The building has been appraised at $670,000.

All of the proceeds of the sale will be applied against the debt incurred when developing the current library location on North 3rd Street.

The Board this month also discussed their work to gather information for a strategic plan update. The plan is to be present at public meetings to gather information. The gatherers are also willing to speak to business owners and managers and to community groups in hopes of finding out more.
