The Spring 2017 Cruise Night in downtown Effingham was a huge hit. For those who grew up enjoying the cruise route through downtown, Friday night brought back many happy memories.

The downtown was mobbed with people, vehicles, period music, roaring engines, plenty of exhaust, cooler temperatures and a lot of fun.

The Hi-Boy sandwiches were tasty, according to those who stayed in line to buy one. At one point, the line stretched across the Courthouse Museum lawn as far as the northwest corner of the square. 979XFM's Courtney and Zak provided music and information from a location at the Courthouse cannon and Flex had a playlist of hits from the 50s to the 80s on 979XFM during the evening.

The Cruise Route ran along Jefferson Avenue from the Courthouse square on the east to AutoZone on the west. All kinds of vehicles were cruising the route and the time to travel the route was reminiscent of a time when we had nothing more pressing to do than travel the route and say hi to our friends.

The Thursday Thunder group is planning another Cruise Night in the fall.
