Archer Daniels Midland Company recently donated $1,000 to the Effingham County Sheriff's Department. The donation will go toward the department's "Shop With a Deputy" program.

The Shop With a Deputy program is for economically deprived students from Effingham County schools. Children are referred to the department by school personnel. Each child is provided with funds to Christmas shop for themselves and their families. The number of children involved in the program varies from year to year dependent upon contributions from the community. In past years, the number of students has ranged from 100 to 150.

Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon said, "We are very thankful for having local businesses such as ADM assist us with the Shop With a Deputy program. We strive to help as many families as we can each year, and this generous donation is greatly appreciated."

The donation was given through ADM Cares. ADM Cares is a social investment program that directs funds to initiatives and organizations that drive meaningful social, economic and environmental progress worldwide. The program comprises three distinct focus areas: supporting the responsible development of agriculture, improving the quality of life in ADM communities and fostering employee giving and volunteer activities.
