The Class of 2017 at Effingham High School participated in the school's 130th Commencement Exercises Sunday afternoon.

Those present heard graduation speeches from the school's 13 valedictorians. They are Jacob Bushue, Alexandria Denoyer, Jacob Donaldson, Dustin Gurley, Kayla Herzing, Brett Hodges, Antonio Munoz, Trent Pearcy, Hannah Pike, Callaway Smith, Harrison Smith, Meredith Wendling and Grant Wolfe.

Munoz doubled as Senior Class President, a position he held through all four years of high school.

Abbey Meinhart offered the invocation, and Brent Beals delivered the benediction. Music was provided by the EHS Band.

The ceremony was the final one under the direction of high school principal Jason Fox and assistant principal Cody Lewis. Fox will become assistant superintendent upon the retirement of Rem Woodruff and Lewis will become junior high principal upon the departure of Bill Myers for a new principal's position in Beardstown.
