Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said Plumb was traveling west on Jaycee Avenue just after 3:30pm Wednesday when his pickup truck crossed the center line and ran off the road, striking a tree. The pickup ran through a steel fence before striking the tree. Plumb then put the vehicle in reverse and backed through a steel fence, drove across a field, knocked over a trash dumpster and an outdoor table and some chairs, hit a guardrail and then backed into a modular home.

Two women who lived in the modular home escaped injury, and Plumb declined treatment at the scene.
