Longtime Effingham Park Board member David McDevitt was recognized for his more than 20 years' service at Wednesday's meeting.

McDevitt, who has served as board president for much of his 24-year tenure, had the Little League diamond at Community Park named in his honor at the meeting. His family was on hand for the presentation, including one daughter who got a break from her college professor to take an exam early so she could be present.

Dennis Carie was elected Park Board president, and Russ Sehy was chosen vice president. The Board also swore in Jason Semple to his first term, succeeding McDevitt, and Sehy was sworn in to his second term.

The budget committee was also approved, made up of Semple, along with Park District Director Jeff Althoff and Park District Treasurer Anita Broom.

Board members heard from Workman Sports and Wellness Complex Manager Jake Junghanel that the facility now has 2,002 memberships made up of 5,991 total members. There are also 336 Golden Sneakers members.

Althoff said there are around 35 kids enrolled their Adventure summer day camps, plus other kids enrolled in their sports camps and clinics.
