A driver and passenger were injured in a crash related to a sudden downpour late Sunday night in Jasper County.

State police say 58-year-old Robin Miller of Robinson was traveling west on Illinois Route 33, just east of Newton, at 11:17pm when a heavy downpour occurred. Miller later told police the passenger, 49-year-old Anthony Litzelman of West Liberty, grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway to the right. The car traveled about 200 feet before striking two trees and coming to a halt.

Miller was taken to Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, while Litzelman was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Arrest information in the incident is still pending.
