Crisis Nursery of Effingham County Director Meghan Rewers said the nursery has already provided more services to more kids in the month they've been open than expected.

A ribbon cutting sponsored by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce took place Friday morning.

Crisis Nursery's mission is "to protect and prevent childhood trauma, abuse and neglect through the provision of an emergency shelter care program for children birth through six years of age."

All of the Nursery's services are free and open to any child in need no matter their residence or their family's income level.

Rewers reported that since the Nursery's opening on March 10, they've served 24 unduplicated children, had over 100 admissions and provided more than 900 hours of care to children. They've provided families in need with over 100 items such as pack 'n' plays, clothes, diapers and formula to help ensure basic needs are met when children leave the Nursery.

Rewers thanked HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for its investment in the Nursery, as well as her Board of Directors and the scores of volunteers and donors who've made the startup possible.
